Erzbergrodeo becomes the latest major enduro event to be cancelled due to Covid-19 restrictions – infamous hard enduro cancelled for first time in 25 years.

Organisers of the Red Bull Erzbergrodeo, scheduled for June 11-14 and round three of the 2020 WESS Enduro World Championship, has been cancelled.

In a statement released today, April 6, 2020, organisers announced the cancellation due to Austrian government restriction (in this case a ban on sporting events) extending further.

Crucially the ruling pushes further to the end of June 2020 and therefore has left event director, Karl Katoch with no choice except to pull the event.

Here’s the statement in full:

According to the Austrian Federal Government, there is a fundamental ban on events until the end of June 2020 The Red Bull Erzbergrodeo 2020 must therefore be cancelled.

The ban on events issued by the Austrian Federal Government today until the end of June 2020 does not make it possible to host the Red Bull Erzbergrodeo on the planned date from 11. to 14. June. Therefore, for the first time in the 25-year history of the world-renowned motorsport event, the cancellation of the Red Bull Erzbergrodeo has to be pronounced.

“All further detailed information about the cancellation of the event will be published after the Easter holidays.” Says organizer Karl Katoch immediately after the announcement of the government regulation.

Sincerely,

Martin Kettner
