Today we learned the sad news of the passing of former world trials champion, Ulf Karlson after a fatal illness.
Karlson was Montesa’s first world champion in 1980 and very much part of a golden era as world trials went through big changes to become a global sport.
After his career in trials ended Karlson was successful at Swedish national level enduros. Riding a 400 Husqvarna, he notched up top finishes in national and international Swedish events from the 80s through to the 90s.
Ulf was one of the very few Scandinavians to top the world trials tree. In a competitive era alongside names like Lampkin, Rathmell, Vesterinen and Schreiber, Karlson achieved fifteen victories at the highest championship level and a total of 40 podiums.
Karlson was eight times Swedish champion and triumphed in three Scandinavian championships with Montesa.
