Spanish mega enduro, Bassella Race, all set to welcome 1250 riders this weekend with Extreme and main enduro races attracting big names like Laia Sanz, Alfredo Gomez, Manuel Lettenbichler.
This weekend of February 1-3 kicks the 2019 Spanish off road season into life with the Bassella Race, this year celebrating its tenth anniversary. Entires closed last Thursday with a total of 1,250 riders registered for the popular event.
In 2018, with the event split into two main races, saw tight finishes in both with Taddy Blazusiak narrowly beating Jonny Walker in the Xtreme race and Cris Guerrero stealing the enduro win from Jaime Betriu in the final metres to the line.
The ProXtreme category has been limited to 50 riders to compete in the race popular with spectators on the Saturday afternoon. Among those signed up are Alfredo Gómez, Taddy Blazusiak, Manuel Lettenbichler and Josep Garcia among many others. Blazusiak could be in doubt however after his tough SuperEnduro race in Madrid last weekend.
Running alongside the Pro class on Sunday, a grid of 300 riders runs including many previous winners (Bernárdez, Cervantes, Guerrero, Kvastrom) and star names including Laia Sanz.
950 pilots form the amateur races, divided between the “Friends” categories (30, 40, 50, 60, classic and Women) plus a “Fans” class who get a turn around the course during Saturday for the hell of it and no awards.
It is all part of the Bassella mix and festival feel which makes it such a popular event.
As ever the event will also have a full commercial area, with no lack of the official brands to exhibit their 2019 models and products.
The program of activities starts Friday with the administrative checks and track inspection. Saturday sees the Kids, Classics and new Maxitrail classes plus the Xtreme Race and the tribute to the winners of the 9 previous editions.
Sunday is main race day and will see riders compete a 70km long course in the hills North West of Barcelona.
