Kurt Caselli, one of the most successful and charismatic American riders of the decade, has been inducted to the AMA Hall of Fame Class of 2019.
Former ISDE Junior Trophy winner and Dakar Rally racer Kurt Caselli has been inducted into the AMA Hall of Fame. Caselli joins Jeff Fredette, Steve McQueen and Ricky Carmichael, among others, in being honoured by the American Motorcyclist Association as one of North America’s most legendary riders.
Following his father Rich, Caselli started riding bikes at an early age and quickly showed his potential winning the dessert championship in his class at the age of 15 and the amateur enduro, dessert and grand prix championships two years later.
Being part of the USA squad at the ISDE for 12 years he was the top finishing American eight times, two of them winning his class, and was also part of the 2006 winning Junior Trophy Team and the runner-up with the 2013 World Trophy Team.
Riding for the factory-backed KTM USA team, Caselli won three back-to-back AMA National Hare and Hound Championships (2011, 2012 and 2013) before switching his focus to rally racing, where he finished 31st at the Dakar Rally in 2013 and won the Desafio Ruta 40 in the same year.
Tragically, while racing the 2013 Baja 1000 Caselli passed away following a collision with an animal.
Remembered by his talent and skills on a motorbike, as well as being one of the nicest guys to meet up around the paddock Caselli has been included in the AMA Hall of Fame Class of 2019 this past Saturday, December 7.
“Kurt was blessed to have travelled far and wide throughout his career, living life to the fullest and making lots of friends and memories in his 30 years. While I am proud of Kurt’s motorcycle career, championships, accomplishments and accolades, I am most proud of the son and man Kurt Caselli was,” admitted Nancy Caselli, Kurt’s mother.
His fiancé Sarah White added, “I don’t know if there are words for how proud I am, and how sad I am that he can’t be here to do this himself. This would have meant the absolute world to him.”
After the passing of Caselli those around him decided to create the Kurt Caselli Foundation to focus on improving the safety of riders and races in the off road motorcycling scene. They run on donations and fundraisers so if you want to collaborate you can do it at the link found at the bottom of the post.
