2023 Gotland Grand National results where Albin Elowson took the victory ahead of EnduroGP World Champion Steve Holcombe and Hamish Macdonald.

A historic 40th and final running of the biggest enduro on planet earth (for now...), the Gotland Grand National, did not disappoint.

The infamous Tofta shooting range on the island of Gotland in the Baltic Sea hosted the GGN for the final time before it moves on to new location. 3400 riders ranging from kids races, through thousands of amateurs and finally on the main race day, Saturday, the Pro riders including some of the very best men and women in world enduro.

The main race victory at this 40th edition went to Albin Elowson who claims back-to-back victories and etches his name on the trophy for the third time.

Elowson basically led from start to finish and was never really threatened. After electing to pit early for fuel Fillip Bengtsson took over the lead temporarily but Albin took back the lead and went on to control the race.

2023 EnduroGP World Champion Steve Holcombe, plus Sherco Factory Racing’s Hamish Macdonald, both made their maiden assaults on the epic race and despite the race being like no other enduro, the GP boys (and girls, see below) made their marks ahead of the local Swedish specialists.

Holcombe took a couple of laps to get within reach of Elowson but in the end had no answer to multi-time winner’s pace on the brutal limestone course with Albin taking victory by two and a half minutes.

Macdonald also had to work hard for his third place position (like anyone doesn’t work hard in this race!) to finish a further two minutes down but ahead of a long list of Swedish riders.

Akesson versus Daniels in Women’s Elite race

In the women’s race (also a three-hour race if you were thinking women get a shorter race in this part of the world) Swedish riders also had an Enduro World Champion in their midst as Jane Daniels took on the Tofta course for her first time.

But despite the four-time world champion closing her down in the second half of the race, Linnea Akesson took a determined victory from her more experienced rival with Hanna Berzelius completing the podium.
