2025 EnduroGP Results: Josep Garcia at brilliant best on Day 1 in Spain
Results from day one of the 2025 EnduroGP World Championship round two in Oliana, Spain where KTM’s Josep Garcia was at devastating best for a clear win ahead of Zach Pichon and Andrea Verona.
EnduroGP Rnd 2, Day 1 in a nutshell:
- With a 49-second winning margin in the EnduroGP scratch result, and a whopping 1:43 in the E1 class, you could say Josep Garcia had a good day on his Red Bull KTM Factory Racing 250 EXC-F today. Less than an hour from his hometown, the reigning champion is very much on home soil here for the second round of the 2025 season — and boy, did he look at home.
- Josep took the lead from the first test and never let go, extending his advantage over TM Boano Racing’s Zach Pichon across the nine tests and three laps to eventually claim that winning margin.
- For the record, Josep only dropped one test scratch win all day to clock eight from nine and take the kind of winning margin we just don’t see. A sign of the two British riders, Steve Holcombe and Brad Freeman, not being here due to injury? Maybe. But definitely a sign that Garcia is over his broken collarbone injury and at his brilliant best right now.
- At around 11 minutes long, the Enduro test proved crucial today, with Garcia taking bags of time on each visit to extend his lead. That same test proved Andrea Verona’s downfall on the second visit. The GASGAS factory rider lost over half a minute to Garcia after a mistake and almost threw away a podium altogether and one too many mistakes cost the foremr champion on day one in Oliana.
- Second for Zach Pichon was “a good day” but means he lets go of the leader’s red plate, handing it back to Garcia, although the pair remain one point apart.
- The battle to be best Sherco rider and best E3 class rider rages on between Hamish McDonald and Antoine Magain. The teammates are pushing each other on and up this year and once again finished one and two on the E3 podium, taking fourth and fifth scratch.
- There was more single-make rivalry in the fight for sixth and seventh between Morgan Lesiardo and Mikael Persson. The Triumph Italia rider Lesiardo claimed his best-ever EnduroGP result, beating the Triumph Racing Factory rider Persson by 0.59s at the final timing beam. The pair joined Garcia on the E1 podium.
- Behind them, Nathan Watson was half a minute adrift in P8 for Beta, with Samuele Bernardini ninth on the Honda RedMoto machine and Leo Le Quéré for TM completing the top 10 overall.
- In the super-competitive Junior category, Axel Semb didn’t quite match Garcia’s winning margin but the Swedish rider wasn’t far off it with 38s gap ahead of Thibault Giraudon.
- The gaps closed up just a touch thereafter with Giraudon clocking 2.8s ahead of Manuele Verzeroli who took the final step on the Junior overall podium by 0.65 ahead of Leo Joyon.
- Very different conditions in Spain didn’t sit so well with round one winner, Kyron Bacon who could only manage P7 today, losing a lot of time over his title rivals.
- The Youth class saw French rider Romain Dagna also a healthy winner – it was one of those days where the best riders in class really were on top of their games. Dagna took 40 seconds away from championship rival Alberto Elgari in second with Pietro Scardina third.
Josep Garcia (KTM): “I worked hard after the GP of Portugal to be ready for this race. I felt I came into my home race prepared and ready to fight. I made some mistakes and some crashes, but overall it went well. It’s incredible to race this close to my home, to win is amazing.”
Zach Pichon (TM MOTO): “For me, it was a good day. I had some good times in the Enduro Test. I knew Josep [Garcia] would be fast here, it’s his home race. But I’m pleased with my performance. I hope to continue like this tomorrow.”
Andrea Verona (GASGAS): “Third overall is nice, but I think I could have fought for second if it wasn’t for some mistakes. I know there’s places to improve, so I will aim to do that tomorrow.”
Axel Semb (Fantic): “It feels great to win. It’s been a good comeback from the opening round in Portugal where I was fourth both days. It’s also been a long time since my last victory, so I’m super happy to be back on the top step of the podium.”
Romain Dagna (KTM): “I had a great first lap and was able to open up a nice lead. I held that advantage for most of the day, but when I crashed twice on the final Enduro Test the times were tight again. I kept calm, kept my pace and was able to build again, and win the day.”
