2025 EnduroGP of Spain Results: Bad weather causes chaos on Day 2 – Andrea Verona wins by 1.4s
Results from day two of the 2025 EnduroGP World Championship round two in Oliana, Spain where Andrea Verona puts the GASGAS 450 on top by 1.44 seconds from Josep Garcia on a day badly affected by the weather.
EnduroGP Rnd 2, Day 2 in a nutshell:
- To say it was a bit wet for the start of day two in Oliana would be a massive understatement. It was torrential, caused floods in the paddock and in the tests and all came at a time when everyone was getting kitted up – it couldn’t have been worse.
- It made life very difficult for the organisers who had a lot of pressure from all sides but in the end, when ambulances are getting stuck, it doesn’t matter how many people say, “back in my day we would have just carried on…”. If someone can’t get medical attention then safety has to take priority.
- The upshot was a series of delays and a reshuffle of the running order. Somehow, we still had all three laps and three tests, but you wouldn’t have predicted it at 10am this morning.
- It meant a difficult day for riders with some sections of some tests dry and fine, while others were really tricky and robbed time away from the very best of riders.
- What you might have predicted was Josep Garcia taking another victory for KTM on his home turf. But a dramatic final lap saw Garcia crash, hurt himself and literally limp home for second.
It looked a little something like this...
- By contrast GASGAS Factory Racing’s Andrea Verona needed no second invitation and proved the motto ‘it ain’t over till it’s over’. The Italian kept on it and in the final two tests held off the pressure to take his first win of the season by 1.44 seconds.
- Truth be known, we can’t actually remember the last time a 450 four-stroke won overall in EnduroGP. Alex Salvini about five or six years ago? Answer on a postcard please.
- Garcia will curse the mistake in the final Cross test when he had an 18 seconds lead. Catching his foot on an up-turned skip, he had a dramatic crash which hurt his leg and which subsequently cost him again in the tricky, long Enduro test right at the end of the day. Still, a 1-2 scorecard sees him leave Spain the championship points leader.
- Honda RedMoto’s Samuele Bernadini was one of the more vocal riders this morning, wanting the race to go ahead and defying some of his fellow competitors it appeared. But he Italian backed up his defiance with a fine third place finish, his best-ever overall results in EnduroGP.
- The battling Sherco E3 teammates this day saw Belgian Antoine Magain get the better of Hamish Macdonald and take the class victory and P4 overall.
- Triumph Italia’s Morgan Lesiardo improved on his day one result of sixth to complete the top five for his best-ever GP weekend (and Trumph’s).
- Arriving in Spain as the points leader, Zach Pichon leaves with a sour taste following a mistake in Enduro test on lap two. A tricky uphill caught the TM rider big time and though he tried a couple of times , he ended up taking the chicken line. The result was a terrible test time 1:45 slower than his rivals and an equally disastrous 14th place overall at the finish. That means first to third in the points for he Frenchman.
- Axel Semb put on a repeat performance for the Junior class win, this time pushed much harder for the win by Leo Joyon who takes a 4-2 scorecard for the weekend. Kevin Cristino found the going better for the big 300 two-stoke Fantic on day two with P3 at the finish.
- Pietro Scardina converted third to first in the Youth category. The Italian blitzed the day in fact with a 30 seconds advantage over day one winner, French rider Romain Dagna and Alberto Elgari third, 14s adrift.
Andrea Verona (GASGAS): “It’s been a hard day on the trail. I’m really happy to get my first win of the year on the 450F. It wasn’t easy. It’s been a long day, so slippery on lap one, but got better as the day progressed. The Enduro Test was tough, the lines I checked last night helped me on the bigger bike. Slowly, we are getting there with a pace to fight at the front.”
Josep Garcia (KTM): “To be honest I was having a perfect day of racing, enjoying the muddy conditions. I had the gap out to 30 seconds. But on the penultimate Cross Test I hit the metal container with my right foot and crashed, which caused me a bit of pain. It’s disappointing to lose, but this championship is long.”
Samuele Bernardini (Honda): “I’m so happy, this is my first podium in EnduroGP class. I pushed as hard as I could today, trying all the time. I’m very happy with this result, thank you so much to my team.”
Axel Semb (Fantic): “To come back and win again feels really good. Conditions were much different than yesterday, but I pushed hard to do my best and was able to make the win happen.”
Pietro Scardina (Fantic): “Today was a difficult day, but I didn’t make a mistake and rode well. Without mistakes, I was able to win, unlike yesterday. So I learned a bit too. It’s good!”
