Josep Garcia Breaks Collarbone in Training Accident
Josep Garcia breaks collarbone in training accident on his Red Bull KTM Factory Racing 250 EXC-F – EnduroGP World Champion still on course for season opener on Portugal on April 4-6.
With the opening round of the 2025 FIM EnduroGP World Championship just over one month away, on April 4-6 in Fafe, Portugal, you might expect a broken collarbone to be a disaster for the defending world champion, Josep Garcia.
Not so for the Red Bull KTM rider who will undergo surgery to fix the same left collarbone he has previously broken and, although Josep will miss the opening round of the 2025 Spanish Enduro Championship in Panton (Lugo), the prognosis is that he should be ready in time for the first EnduroGP round in Portugal.
The Spanish rider crashed over the bars earlier this week, late February as we write, which resulted in a break to his left clavicle – the collarbone Josep broke badly mid-season in 2023 and has only just undergone surgery to have the metal plate removed.
Fortunately, Enduro21 understands it’s a clean fracture and next week he will undergo surgery with Dr. Xavier Mir (well-known surgeon to MotoGP riders as well as Josep) to have a new 3D-printed plate fitted to match the shape of his clavicle. The plan is to allow three weeks for the bone to heal and then begin recovery.
Due to his physical condition, Josep’s bones tend to heal quickly and although it’s not the scenario he would have wanted at this stage, he’s taken it just as a minor setback in his preparation for the World Championship.
In terms of bike setup and winter preparation, it’s not ideal but it’s also fair to say Josep has had a very good winter and was ready to go for the ’25 season prior to this crash.
When Enduro21 spoke to Josep at the recent Bassella Race he told us they had made some small changes to his 250 EXC-F and that he felt better than ever with it – that it was “his bike”.
