2024 Red Bull Romaniacs results: Fifth victory for Lettenbichler – Sherco boys battle to the flag
2024 Red Bull Romanics Hard Enduro World Championship round results where Mani Lettenbichler takes a fifth victory for KTM ahead of the fight to the finish between Sherco teammates Mario Roman and Teo Kabakchiev.
2024 Red Bull Romaniacs Off Road Day 4 in a nutshell:
- While Mani Lettenbichler cruised to a fifth Romaniacs victory on day four in Romania, the Sherco Racing duo Teo Kabakchiev and Mario Roman grabbed most the attention fighting it out for the podium right to the final hillclimbs.
- The Silver class also saw a battle royale with three riders in the hunt for victory across the final four hours of racing and on a day which is always challenges the classes despite the finish line being in sight.
- We probably could have written the headline “Manuel Lettenbichler wins 2024 Red Bull Romaniacs” two weeks ago. Despite coming back from injury, once it was confirmed the Red Bull KTM rider would defend his title was always the favourite.
- If there were any doubters then his performance in the mountains this week has proved why he is the best in the world right now. Setting up a near 30-minute lead on day one which no-one got close to, it was never in doubt and Lettenbichler took an easy win, regains the HEWC points lead as well as edging closer to Graham Jarvis’ all-time record seven Romaniacs victories.
- If the heat was off Lettenbichler it was certainly on the Sherco boys with Teo Kabakchiev and Mario Roman on a final day showdown for the podium.
- Starting from fourth place, Kabakchiev made his intentions clear by overtaking Wade Young and Mani Lettenbichler early to gain five minutes on corrected time.
- Roman meanwhile was out front, opening the track alone all day and the Sherco teammates arrived at the service point having traded fastest check times but with the Bulgarian holding an advantage. Roman wasn’t done and put together a decisive second half and attack the final quarry with unbelievable speed.
- No-one could accuse these guys of not giving it everything right to the end and, after the results shuffled and some protesting, it was Kabakchiev who finishes second and Roman (rather than the other way around as originally recorded on time sheets). either way it was an historic result for Sherco.
- Finishing his week strongly, Wade Young will lose the championship lead after a fourth-place finish but it remains close and the South African, Lettenbichler and Roman are all still in it to win it as they head to the Tennessee Knockout in a few weeks.
- Michael Walkner makes it GASGAS bikes in P4 and P5 with Wade and best-placed Junior Mitch Brightmore behind in sixth. Both in the Juniors, the Brightmore brothers had never completed Romaniacs before so had a learning experience like no other this week.
- Kornel Ott put on a determined final day in the Silver class to take overall victory. Despite scaling the final hill like a scolded cat, Veteran Chris Birch dropped time today to finish almost 10 minutes behind Ott for second in Silver ahead of Patrick Riegler third.
- Bronze riders certainly didn’t have an easy final four and half hours racing and some tough climbs were the undoing of Kevin Gallas on the Tenere who had led all week. A solid third on the final day gave the Bronze win to British rider mark Kirby relegating Gallas to second with Romanian David Ignat completing the podium.
- The Iron class saw an historic hard enduro podium for Greece with Dhmhtrhs Margos bringing it home a mighty 26-minutes clear of Austrian Peter Wuth and Konstantinos Dimitriou third overall also from Greece.
- The mixture of nationalities continued in the Atom class with Canadian Alexander Petroiu eventually claiming an easier win than Lettenbichler, 1h32 ahead of Romanian Valentin Ganea and Dimitriy Reznitskiy takes third.
