2025 BP Ultimate Rally Raid Portugal Results: Schareina bounces back with Stage 3 win and race lead
Monster Energy Honda‘s Tosha Schareina gets the better of Red Bull KTM‘s Daniel Sanders on stage three of the BP Ultimate Rally Raid Portugal, round four of the 2025 World Rally Raid Championship, taking the overall lead by 1′42″ as the Portguese Rally spends the day on Spanish soil.
RallyGP: No Place Like Home For Schareina
Yesterday in Badajoz, Daniel Sanders deprived Tosha Schareina of a coveted home win by just four seconds, but the Spaniard got his own back today, edging out the Australian at the end of a lengthy duel.
The outskirts of Badajoz of the BP Ultimate Rally Raid Portugal was in fact a 100% Spanish adventure with 308km against the clock and 511km in total.
Sanders was again opening the course as the previous stage winner but had to yield near the finish.
Schareina secured his first win since stage 5 of the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge by 3′18″ and moved into the overall lead, now leading by approximately the amount he trailed after stage two. The two favourites are now 1′42″.
There was more to the stage than the clash between Schareina and Sanders, though, as Luciano Benavides and Ricky Brabec also delivered solid performances and only faltered towards the end, conceding 3′19″ and 3′46″ to the winner. The Argentinian and the American are locked in a vicious duel for the bottom step of the overall podium: Benavides (+9′22″) overtook Brabec (+9′32″), but they are just 10 seconds apart. Much like last year, it looks like the Iberian rally will go down to the wire.
Rally2: Canet benefits
Edgar Canet had his work cut out to repeat his undefeated run in the face of the dogged Bruno Santos. The Portuguese rider held a slender victory on the stage but later received a penalty for speeding and the win passed back to the Canet.
Michael Docherty rounded out the day podium at 2′20″. The top three in the stage reflects the overall, where Canet extended his lead to 5′57″ over Santos and 7′42″ over Docherty.
Rally3: Zoldos makes it four
Much like Edgar Canet in Rally2, Thomas Zoldos bagged his fourth consecutive win in the class for enduro motorbikes adjusted for rally. The Frenchman made short work of Salvador Amaral and Carlo Cabini and now has an overall lead of more than an hour.
