South African Safari Rally results: Sanders on top in Sun City Prologue
Red Bull KTM Factory Rally team’s Daniel Sanders has taken the prologue win at the 2025 South African Safari Rally, round three of the FIM World Rally-Raid Championship (W2RC), four seconds faster than Monster Energy Honda rider Tosha Schareina.
It’s that man again, rider of the moment in Rally-Raid, Red Bull KTM’s Daniel Sanders has set the benchmark time in the 2025 South Africa Safari Rally, round three of the Rally-Raid World Championship.
The Australian posted a time four seconds faster than fellow prologue flier, Monster Energy Honda rider Tosha Schareina with BAS World Team’s local hero Michael Docherty third, eight seconds adrift of the factory boys on the nine kilometre sprint.
Docherty was fastest in Rally2 class ahead of KTM’s Edgar Canet and Honda’s Ricky Brabec completing the top five as the rally got underway in Sun City.
The new race to the W2RC calendar promises to keep the riders on their toes with a blast across the Savannah which can contain wildlife of various proportions which Hero MotoSport’s Ross Branch, who says he learned to ride a dirt bike in this terrain, says you have to be wary of.
Organisers say race goes into the hot and dry central region of South Africa, with fast, open roads flowing through the open plains. The rest of the stages will be in and around the Pilanesberg National Park, offering more technical roads with some bush and river crossings.
The second and third special stages combine into a marathon stage, during which the competitors receive no overnight assistance from their support crews, and camp overnight in the remote bivouac.
