William Hoare has been tearing it up in the SuperEnduro Junior World Championship and British Extreme Enduro and is our featured rider for Local Focus.

Despite still being only 18 years old, young British rider William Hoare has competed in the SuperEnduro World Championship for the past two seasons.

With no international experience, Hoare jumped straight in the deep end last year when a ride opened up with MPS Sherco. Taking to it like a duck to water, Hoare ended the 2016 series in a highly impressive seventh overall.

Returning for more in 2017 with Craig Motorcycles and KTM UK, he continued to pick up some notable results.

Starting off round one in Poland fourth overall, things were looking very good. A dip in form at round two in Germany then saw him spring back to grab a fourth place result in heat two in Spain.

Unfortunately an injured thumb at the final round — resulting in ligament damage — put paid to his chances of bettering his 2016 overall result and he slipped to 10th in the final championship standings.

But given the fact that Hoare only first started to ride enduro at the age of 15, makes his progression in the sport all the more impressive, especially when adding in that superenduro is the only time he’s race on the international enduro stage.

Prior to turning to enduro, William gained his riding skills by hammering around his family’s farm on a trials bike and competing in local events.

“Up until racing SuperEnduro I didn’t really race competitively,” tells William. “I live on a farm so since I was four I always rode there instead. I started riding trials at about 10 years old and did some local events. When I turned 15 my friend Mark Houson gave me a spin on his enduro bike and I got into from there.

“Despite a lack of experience I really enjoyed racing the SuperEnduro. With the British weather it’s hard to prepare for it during the winter but racing in a stadium is really cool. With a background in trials I want to try and start doing some extreme enduro events this year.”

With an eye on racing extreme enduro, Hoare heads to Portugal in May for the Extreme XL Lagares, while also racing the British Extreme series and British Sprint Enduro Championship.
