Bansko is a ski resort at the foothills of the Pirin Mountains in southwest Bulgaria. For one weekend in October, the town comes alive with the sound of dirt bikes for the Three Mountains Hard Enduro.

This is extreme enduro in Bulgaria at its best. The 2017 event was the biggest ever with 226 riders competing over some tough and varied terrain.

The organisers, Moto Company Bansko, prepared a fantastic route through a variety of natural and man-made obstacles. Straight from the start riders are taken across the Glazne river and then up into the forest across fast fire roads.

Such is the ‘relaxed’ nature of the event, competitors are warned before the start to keep an eye out for tourists, jeeps and even woodcutters when travelling the course.

With steep rocky downhills and unrideable uphills the event poses a real challenge for even the most experienced hard enduro rider.

Definitely an event to try one day.
