Joan Pedrero has secured victory for Sherco in the Sardegna Rally Race.
After a week long battle, it was Pedrero who claimed the top step of the podium in this the third round of the FIM Cross Country Rallies World Championship.
Proving itself to be one of the most closely fought races in the history of the rally, Pedrero narrowly won by just 43 seconds following over 14 hours of race time during the six days of racing.
From the off it was Yamaha’s Xavier de Soultrait who led the way. The Frenchman won the prologue and then led the rally during the first four days.
Victory for Pedrero on day five, swung the race lead back in his favour. De Soultrait fought back to win the opening stage on the final day and held a 24-second advantage with just the final 76 km stage to go.
Pulling out all the stops, Pedrero put his wealth of rally experience to use and attacked hard, pulling almost 70 seconds on his French rival to claim the overall victory.
Behind the leading duo, Armand Monleon brought his Husqvarna home in third.
Picking up the final stage win of the rally, Yamaha’s Alessandro Botturi was fourth with Beta mounted Olivier Pain fifth.
